I am more than a number on the scale
65i am glad to see that 2009 is the year of healthy living, the year to rediscover our bodies and our self worth, and learn to be active and lead a healthy life style.
This is all good, if it were not for the never ending message to lose weight and measure our achievement by the number of pounds lost or the new thinner selves.
Glamorising thinness is harmful, it has not only failed for decades, but obesity is on the rise due to the change in metabolism and eating disorders these methods cause.
This is the reason why the promoters of weight loss are borrowing our messages of size acceptance and health at every size, to sell their diets and keep women and teens especially, in the vicious circle of yo yo dieting and body loathing.
My idea of caring and loving my body is unconditional, it has no strings attached. I will love and care for my health no matter what weight i am at or if i lose pounds or inches as a result of a healthy life style or not.
I eat healthy and move my body for health and only for health, not to lose pounds or look thinner.
My self worth is not measured by the number on the scale or a dress size, I am who I am at any size.
I am worthy of respect love and dignity now as I am, it should not be less worthy when fat and more worthy when thin.
My self worth is not based on the scale or the tape measure, these statistics are part of me but not the whole of me, and when they fluctuate they do not affect who I am as a human being.
Caring for my health is a pleasurable duty I have towards my best friend, my child and the home of my soul, my beautiful body.
Without it, I would not be able to love , feel pleasure, walk, run, laugh and dance, be happy or sad , work and play, be creative , be productive, be a lover and a friend, be a mother, a father or a child, without this body I do not exist.
For many years you made me hate it, loath it, despise it, torture it, stuff it, gorge it, punish it, insult it, starve it, and beat it.
You are fat and ugly you said, you should be ashamed of your body, who would want you when you are looking like this, you are disgusting, you are obese, lardy, horrible and flabby.
You have let yourself go you said, do something about it you lazy cow.
It is easy to lose weight and look great, just stop eating, stop stuffing your face with sweets and junk food and get off your fat behind and move....
You only have yourself to blame, you have no will power, you are disgusting..
No wonder obesity is on the rise, the reverse psychology meant to so called motivate us fatties to lose weight, resulted in blood tears and death.
The get healthy message you have stolen from us, will not work for you, given your history of torture and abuse.
If you want to be healthy for your health only not for weight loss, then come back again to read more about how to care for and accept your body unconditionally and look after it lovingly for health sake not weight loss.

Excellent writing in all areas of health and self-acceptance, and I have a good continental reader all of you writing successful in the defense of the lofty goals of human
You have put into words what has been in my mind and heart for many years. It's only recently that I have learned to accept (and love) myself the size I am. And once I let go of the self-guilt and self-hatred inflicted on me by others, I found peace. I'm now taking care of myself for my benefit, not because some doctor ordered me to, not because there are those that think I'm a fat slob. And because I'm happier, my family thinks I've lost weight because I "look better" LOL Whether I ever do or not no longer matters. What matters is self-acceptance and self-worth. I'm printing out your article and hanging it up.
Good article. Solid info. Positive and confident presentation. Clear and concise wording. Excellently done. Thank you for writing it and for sharing it.
Keep "preaching" the Health At Every Size message for all to hear. Maybe one day, our world will accept all our members regardless of the outward appearances. I do hope so. And, you are so right to love your beautiful God-given body and to take care of it irrespective of the size or shape.Well done Tima Good Luck
Thank you for this wonderful article, such a great message that could bring health and peace to so many. I wish for Oprah Winfrey, to truly follow these principles and be able to love her body at a larger size. I was struck by how ugly she felt compared to Cher and Tina Turner. Of the three, I find Oprah more attractive. Of course, that's subjective, but I wish she could see herself through kinder eyes than her own.
frankly speaking this issue depending on our minds our mantility,so what i like to say here the one who will respect me to my characters i will do the same, but the one who will go to deal with me throw how my body looks i will feel silly to deal with him so as u said i love my body i love my how i look if i can to make better before i born so i will the best but i came to this world like this so this is I'm like me or leave me in peace plz this is my theory in the life .by the way my height 180c.m and my weight 77 to 80 but i will feel bad if i will build my relations to the others on basic how they look like i will never go out of my house better so everybody all of us take it easy ,keep yourself busy with something better for all of us
Congratulations Tima, you've said it so well... It's such a deranged society, assigning worth to us (mostly women) according to the body we have...
Why you ignored the fat woman was the symbol of beauty in Europe in middle centuries
In Egypt there are many fat women and accept their bodies and believed that the fat is symbol of rich and beauty
Also in ancient Egypt they were believed that fat is the symbol of rich and depicted that in the wall of their tombs
Thank you Tima,
I agree with you to every word, you say true things.
we are great like we are .
best luck for you.

Well Said Tima, size discrimination is a crime and has to end.

You are saving lives Tima, Thank you.
thanks fatima you? change my viewpoint about fat woman. you are the best model of fat woman
Les jolies rondeurs comme je les adore et laissent présager de très probables atomes crochus ! Si elles pouvaient faire connaissance, nos anatomies auraient certainement plein de choses amusantes à se raconter !!
Wow you are more? than gr8 in everything.
I love BBWs, they are real women, no bones for me.
I'm a Fatima Parker fan! you are the bestest and prettiest and smartest!
in 1 Peter 3:4 it says,
"You should be known for the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God."
i just think girls really need to remember this verse when? they get caught up in how they look and everything else... You are beautiful Tima , inside and out.

ti vollio tanto bene
"Great article Fatima - you got the point across very well. Fat means just that - it does not mean greedy, lazy, ugly and all the other negative things people ascribe to the word."

I'm glad that you're beyond giving importance to what others see or expect to see in you. And you are right, each of us is blessed with only one body so might as well accept it that way it is, enhance what could be enhance without abusing it and loving it regardless. Thanks for sharing, I'm one with you in welcoming a healthier year :D
